
ArmInfo. Armenia's decision to apply for joining the SCO is marked by both continuity and change, as stated by Armenian Ambassador to China Vahe Gevorgyan in an interview with CGTN about the country's motivation for joining the framework.
He recalled that back in 2016, Armenia already became a partner for dialogue, and in this regard, it has already had the opportunity to establish good working relations with the secretariat, as well as with the key states of this organization.
"As for our foreign policy approaches in this regard, I would like to note that we are trying to diversify our relations with key countries of the world, major countries of the world, but also with multilateral organizations. We believe in multilateral diplomacy, and we believe in multilateralism. In short, we are applying with firm, resolve and determination to share principles, spirits, and to work together with all key countries," Gevorgyan said.
Touching upon the Armenian-Chinese bilateral relations, Gevorgyan noted that Yerevan and Beijing are approaching to the strategic relations, to strategic cooperation with China. According to him, this cooperation will be based on mutual interests and mutual respect.
"We hope to reach a new quality beginning of our relations very soon. Armenia is interested in augmenting our bilateral trade, which is already growing rapidly. We are also very interested to make China part of ours connectivity projects and to give more opportunities for infrastructure development of Armenia by the involvement of China," he noted.
