ArmInfo. Several Western-oriented NGOs are holding a protest outside the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri, demanding the withdrawal of the Russian base from Armenia.
Large police forces have been deployed to the site. They have cordoned off the approaches to the military facility. Armenian and Russian patriotic songs can be heard coming from the territory of the Russian base. A pro-Russian action is taking place in parallel, organized by the Mother Armenia party in support of maintaining the Russian presence. Pro-Russian action participants emphasize that the Turkophiles want the base to be withdrawn. "Who will guard the 311 km of the Armenian-Turkish border? We will not allow the withdrawal," one of the participants said angrily. Those in support of Russia emphasized that no one will be able to drive a wedge into the Armenian-Russian friendly relations, and the presence of the base is in the interests of the Republic of Armenia. They hold banners that read that read "No to the Turkification of Armenia!"
