ArmInfo. Today, the foundation of the Kars-Igdir-Aralyk-Diluju railway line will be laid in Turkey, which will become part of the route passing through the Syunik region of Armenia and connecting mainland Azerbaijan with its exclave Nakhichevan. This was reported by CNN Turk with reference to the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey Abdulkadir Uraloglu.
The minister noted that the length of the new line will be about 224 kilometers and will consist of two tracks, with electrification and modern signaling systems, and its capacity is designed to transport 5.5 million passengers and 15 million tons of cargo annually.
According to the source, the project includes complex engineering structures: five tunnels, bridges, viaducts and dozens of crossings. The total cost of construction is estimated at approximately 110 billion Turkish liras, with part of the funds provided by an external loan of 2.4 billion euros. The line is planned to be commissioned by the end of 2029.
The acquisition by the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem of an extraterritorial corridor through southern Armenia as a strategic transport artery connecting Azerbaijan with Turkey via Nakhichevan and providing access to Eurasian routes is one of the key tasks of Baku and Ankara.
