ArmInfo. The liberalization of the visa regime with the EU is realistic for Armenia, as stated by EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos in an interview with CivilNet.
In this regard, the diplomat noted that since 2019, the EU has not initiated a dialogue on visa liberalization with any partner other than Armenia.
"The initiation of the visa liberalization dialogue with Armenia was an exceptional political move taken last year. We launched it on September 9, 2024. Over the past five years, under Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, we have not actually launched a visa liberalization dialogue with any other partner. So this is an important event. And we did it because we believe in it, because we consider it realistic," Maragos said. The EU Ambassador considers the efforts made by Armenia to achieve visa liberalization sufficient. "We conducted assessment missions when High Representative Kaja Kallas visited us in June. She announced the completion of the internal committee's work on preparing an action plan for visa liberalization. This plan is currently under discussion with member states, and once the discussions are completed, we hope to present the action plan to the Armenian public and Armenian authorities," the diplomat added. Maragos noted that the implementation of this action plan will determine when Armenian citizens can travel to EU countries without a visa.
