ArmInfo. A motion has been filed to extend the arrest of Tashir Group President Samvel Karapetyan, the Karapetyan Defense Council reports.
It is noted that the motion will be considered on August 14 at 17:30 in the Anti-Corruption Court.
Philanthropist and president of Tashir Group Samvel Karapetyan was detained on the night of June 18 in Yerevan by law enforcement agencies of Armenia after he expressed support for the Armenian Apostolic Church. In response, this was followed by open threats from the Prime Minister. On the night of June 19, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction arrested Samvel Karapetyan for two months. He is being held in the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary (the well-known "KGB basement" in the building of the National Security Service of Armenia). He is accused of publicly calling for the seizure of power in the country. This was followed by the adoption by the RA Parliament of a package of legislative amendments aimed at nationalizing the company owned by the Tashir Group, and on July 18, by the decision of the head of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, Romanos Petrosyan was appointed as the temporary manager of Elsety within the framework of the administrative proceedings and the application of preventive measures against ESA. Petrosyan's powers will remain in effect until the act on the results of the administrative proceedings comes into force.
On July 16, Karapetyan's defense reported that instead of terminating the criminal proceedings and lifting the arrest, the well-known businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan was recently brought a clearly unfounded new charge of "money laundering as a result of the activities of several companies" without any data
