


ArmInfo. The garbage dump in Nubarashen is unacceptable in every aspect - socially, health-wise, environmentally, and in terms of urban development. This was the assessment given to journalists by the adviser to the mayor of Yerevan, Kamo Areyan, when commenting on the recent fire at the landfill.
He noted that the government, along with the mayor's office and the private sector, needs to address the issue of constructing a waste processing plant. In this regard, Areyan referred to the Nubarashen landfill as . The mayor's adviser reported that while there are currently no open fires, the landfill continues to emit smoke.
He also mentioned that within 2 days, 560 machines were used to cover the landfill with soil to extinguish the fire, with an additional 30 units of equipment involved.
Recall that back in 2023, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan pointed out the issue of garbage waste removal, with plans to completely shut down the Nubarashen landfill over a four year period. Instead, it is planned to build a waste processing plant.
Note that the Nubarashen landfill has been operating in Yerevan since the 1950s and is located 10 km from the city center. It covers an area of over 50 hectares. According to various estimates, more than 400,000 tons of garbage are sent to the landfill every year.
