ArmInfo. The Armenian Court of Appeal has declared the detention of well-known Armenian and Russian businessman and owner of the Tashir Group of Companies, Samvel Karapetyan, unlawful, as reported by his lawyer Lianna Gasparyan. According to the lawyer, the court found that Samvel Karapetyan's detention on June 18, 2025 was unlawful, resulting in him being illegally deprived of liberty.
Karapetyan was arrested in late June in Yerevan on charges of calling for the seizure of power, although it is well known that there was no such call. Instead, he was calling to protect the dignity of the Armenian Apostolic Church. However, law enforcement agencies began searches both at Karapetyan's house, his close relatives' houses, and the offices of his companies Electric Networks of Armenia and Tashir Group. They even temporarily blocked the operations of the pizzeria chain
According to Karapetyan, the charges against him are politically motivated and he denies any guilt. Prime Minister Pashinyan, in turn, tried to link the businessman's arrest to an alleged coup involving the AAC.
