ArmInfo. The country's political agenda should prioritize national interests over disagreements among various opposition forces, according to Vice Chairman of the Republican Party (RPA) Armen Ashotyan. He made this statement during a press conference on July 5, after being released under administrative control following a 2 year and 2 month period.
Referring to disagreements between opposition forces, particularly, between the political forces of the first and second presidents of Armenia, the RPA Vice Chairman pointed out that while differences between their positions are normal, he is concerned that these disagreements are taking precedence on the agenda. He highlighted the need for the to be more adaptable in challenging the current ruling regime in the country.
The RPA Deputy Chairman noted the presence of "fertile ground" for a new political force to emerge, citing businessman Samvel Karapetyan as an example. He emphasized that the RPA is supportive of this development. "We are interested in the formation of a new unit in the political field and, as far as possible, a sufficiently strong one. However, I would also like Samvel Karapetyan's team, which is engaged in the creation of this new force, not to rush. But not to be late either. And I am sure they understand this," Ashotyan noted. . Ashotyan also drew attention to the fact that in the current situation, when the ruling force in the country is immoral, and the opposition is uncompetitive, the main task is to return this ability to the opposition. Specifically, he noted the need to eliminate discussions of topics on the agenda that do not reflect their importance. In this regard, he touched on the often used argument that the main issue is the lack of a specific program from the opposition to address the issues in the country. He noted that the solutions proposed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan do not actually solve the problems, but only worsen them. "The understanding that Nikol Pashinyan himself is a problem can solve a lot," the RPA deputy chairman added. Ashotyan noted the illogicality of expecting a specific program from the opposition, noting that today even the real situation in the country is unclear, since the authorities are hiding it from everyone. Specifically, he cited the discussions of the "peace treaty" as an example. "In this sense, the plans expected from the opposition cannot be taken seriously given the lack of understanding of the real state of affairs. Therefore, we must recognize that today there are more pressing issues today," the RPA deputy chairman concluded.
