ArmInfo. The Police Guard of Armenia will be equipped with BTR-80 and BRDM-2 armored personnel carriers. The corresponding decision was made at a government meeting on Thursday.
As stated in the explanatory note to the document, on October 24, 2024, the Law was adopted, according to which, when participating in anti-terrorist operations or performing special tasks within the framework of military actions carried out in the territory declared under martial law, a police guard officer, by order of the Chief of Police, has the right to use special means included in the armament of the police guard, the list of which is determined by the Government, in order to ensure the proper exercise of the powers provided for by law.
The decision will enter into force on November 1, 2025.
The Police Guard was created on the basis of the police troops, the Main Department of State Police Security and special police units. The Guard is under the general leadership of the Chief of Police. It will operate under civilian management and parliamentary control. The police sphere will therefore be based on four main structures - the Patrol Service, the Criminal Police, the Municipal Police and the Police Guard.
