ArmInfo. Relations between Moscow and Baku have a solid foundation, but are currently going through a difficult period, as was stated to journalists by the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov.
"There is indeed a solid foundation, there is a coincidence of interests between the two countries, there is mutually beneficial cooperation based on mutual respect. But sometimes it happens that relations between two countries go through difficult periods. Now is one of such periods," the Kremlin representative said. He added that Moscow hopes that this period will pass, noting that cooperation between the two countries is mutually beneficial.
Additionally, he noted that law-abiding Azerbaijanis are respected in Russia, and Moscow considers it very important that Russians are respected in Azerbaijan.
"It is very important for us that Russians are respected in Azerbaijan. There is a very large Azerbaijani diaspora living in Russia. Practically all representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora are our law-abiding citizens who enjoy deserved respect here," the Kremlin representative emphasized, TASS reports. "Those citizens who violate the laws are prosecuted accordingly," Peskov concluded.
