ArmInfo. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for the resolution of the issue of the so-called "Zangezur corridor" through a regional consensus. As reported by trt.global, he called this transport artery extremely important for the economy. His statement comes in response to the American proposal to lease the area for 100 years.
"The Zangezur corridor will benefit not only Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey, but also other countries in the region," Erdogan told reporters after a visit to Northern Cyprus. He stressed that Turkey's main expectation is that this line will become a symbol of consensus, rather than a source of disagreement.
The Turkish leader called the project extremely important from a geo-economic point of view, noting that the "corridor" will connect countries beyond the region and stimulate trade. "Thus, the region will become a zone of prosperity where cooperation prevails," he added. He noted the special interest of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the earliest possible launch of the "corridor".
