ArmInfo. All the processes taking place in the country, including the detentions and political repressions of opponents of the authorities, should be viewed in the context of the attempt by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to destroy all existing centers of resistance.
This was stated in a conversation with journalists by Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a member of parliament from the opposition faction "Armenia", a representative of the Supreme Body of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation "Dashnaktsutyun" (ARF), touching upon the ongoing detentions of ARF members.
He noted that the situation is clear and obvious: the houses of party members have already been searched, and this is not a new phenomenon - such actions have been ongoing for the past five years. However, Saghatelyan drew attention to the fact that what is happening, including the charges brought against members of the party's youth movement for allegedly organizing "terrorism," is a manifestation of hooliganism on a more serious scale, carried out on the instructions of the Armenian Prime Minister and with the direct participation of law enforcement agencies.
Dashnaktsakan is confident that the detentions are taking place in connection with a possible confrontation on the part of the national and pan-Armenian party, which opposes the current processes in the country, especially in connection with the content of the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"The ARF, as a political force, is actively fighting against the threat of losing statehood. These cases will soon become obvious to everyone, and it will become clear that there was no attempt at "terrorism". All of this was staged, including by investigators," Saghatelyan emphasized.
He also expressed his conviction that the agenda of neutralizing the opposition is present in the capitulation agreement with Azerbaijan, which Pashinyan calls a "peace treaty." "This agreement obviously contains everything that is happening in the country now, namely the requirement to eradicate the "revanchist forces", thereby limiting their activities. That is, we are talking about all those who advocate for national interests. It is obvious that Nikol Pashinyan has an agreement with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding the implementation of all these actions. After all, it is clear to everyone that as long as Dashnaktsutyun exists, the Turks and Azerbaijanis will not be able to feel comfortable in Armenia and will not be able to Turkify the country," Saghatelyan noted.
In this vein, he also recalled that from the very beginning of the ARF's existence, that is, throughout its 130 years, there have been repeated attempts to suppress the party's activities. However, Saghatelyan is confident that the political force will continue to exist, because its activities are based on the interests of Armenian society.
"At the very first attack on the country's borders, it was the Dashnaks who went there to defend the Motherland. The Dashnaks' weapons were always aimed at external enemies. And now accusing these people of terrorism is simply disgusting and even ridiculous," the MP summed up.
On July 9, representatives of the Armenian law enforcement agencies conducted searches in the homes of a number of ARF Dashnaktsutyun members, including Gegham Manukyan, a member of parliament from the opposition faction "Armenia". As reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, 7 people have been detained in connection with the case of preparing a "terrorist act". At the same time, the Dashnaks are confident that the detention of their comrades is another political order.
