ArmInfo. Human rights defender Anahit Manasyan made a statement in which she strongly condemned the incident that took place on July 8 in the National Assembly with the participation of MPs.
"Parliament should be a platform for democratic discussions, not a "battlefield". The formation of appropriate mechanisms for considering issues of parliamentary ethics is an urgent need," she said.
Today, during a session of the Armenian parliament, MPs from the ruling party attacked oppositionist Artur Sargsyan from the "Armenia" faction. The latter tried to leave the meeting room after his speech, but the representative of the ruling party "Civil Contract" Vahe Galumyan attacked him from behind. A scuffle ensued. The security service tried to stop the incident, but the footage shows how the associates of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hit the faces of opposition MPs and tried to throw bottles of water at them. The footage also shows how the Vice Speaker of Parliament Hakob Arshakyan pushes the pregnant assistant of an opposition MP in the corridor.
