ArmInfo. Karen Igityan, a lecturer at the Russian-Armenian University and a political scientist, was banned from entering Armenia. Igityan himself reported this on his Facebook page. "So, friends, I was banned from entering Armenia. I was returning to Yerevan from Pyatigorsk, where I participated in the "Caucasian Dialogue" and spoke about the radicalism that Turkey is spreading in the Caucasus.
Upon arrival in Armenia, the Border Troops of the National Security Service announced that I was banned from entering the country. There are no questions for the NSS and Airport Security Service: they behaved as correctly and professionally as possible. But there are questions for the ruling forces in Armenia - rhetorical ones.
What is the reason for the ban? Because I spoke in defense of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the media? Or because I spoke about the radicalism that Turkey is spreading?
I have lived and worked in Armenia for the last 16 years. It's a pity that now I will not see my relatives, fellow teachers, friends and students. The teachers will understand what is especially upsetting in this situation: you worry about those guys who were waiting for our lectures, wanted to write their theses under my supervision.
In any case, this is not the end, but the beginning of a new stage. We will stay in touch," the political scientist wrote.
This is not the first case when the Armenian authorities have banned ethnic Armenians from entering the country. Previously, such a fate was meted out to political scientist Andpanik Hovhannisyan, the head of the Armenian community of France, Dashnaktsakan Murad Papazyan and a number of other active members of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" abroad, who criticize the current Armenian authorities and their political course.
