ArmInfo. The Armenian Cathedral of Ani, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and located on the territory of the archaeological site of Ani, will function as a mosque after restoration. This information was reported by ermenihaber.am citing the state agency Anadolu.
"Is it not mentioned anywhere that this medieval city and church are Armenian. The Cathedral of Ani is presented as a mosque in Fethiye. However, it is noted that the architect of the cathedral was Trdat," the source writes.
"We also know Trdat as the architect who restored the dome of the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul. Trdat was invited to Istanbul from Ani, where he restored the dome of the Hagia Sophia Mosque, then returned to Ani and completed this structure," Muhammad Arslan, the head of excavations at the archaeological site in Ani, told.
