ArmInfo. The statement by the French President, unfortunately, encourages the authoritarian system emerging in Armenia. This was written on his Facebook page by member of the Supreme Body of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun party, deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ishkhan Saghatelyan, commenting on the statement by the French leader Emmanuel Macron.
In his post in the X, the head of the French state noted in Armenian that during a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, he expressed solidarity with him in this difficult domestic political situation. "I had a very good telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. I expressed solidarity with France in response to attempts to destabilize democracy in Armenia," the French leader wrote. In the same post, Macron confirmed that he supports "Armenia's bold efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict with Azerbaijan and normalize relations with Turkey."
In this regard, Ishkhan Saghatelyan stated the following: "Dear President Emmanuel Macron! Your "support" for Nikol Pashinyan does not actually contribute to democracy, but to the establishment of a dictatorship in Armenia and the emergence of a new dictator in the region. In recent years, when high- ranking EU officials and you encouraged the Armenian authorities to take so-called "bold steps", it ended in disaster for our nation. The ethnic cleansing and displacement of Armenians in Artsakh are tragic evidence of this. In international relations, such statements are usually considered as direct interference in the internal affairs of countries. Political forces in Armenia are fighting for their identity, the rights of the people, as well as for real democracy. There is no need to attack the Armenian-French friendship and legitimize the establishment of a dictatorship in Armenia under the name of democracy."
