ArmInfo. The leader of the "Sacred Struggle" protest movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, has been arrested for two months. The decision to this effect was made by the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction late yesterday evening. Galstanyan's lawyer, Hovhannes Khudoyan, informed journalists about the court's decision.
He noted that the court's decision will definitely be appealed.
Earlier, it was reported that the court granted the motion to arrest Artsakh National Assembly deputy David Galstyan, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan's assistant, Movses Sharbatyan, blogger Armen Aleksanyan, and reserve colonel Migran Makhsudyan for two months. In total, motions for the arrest of 16 people were filed with the court. All of them are accused of attempted terrorism and overthrow of state power.
In addition, the ARF Dashnaktsutyun party reported that illegal searches were conducted the previous morning in the homes of Igor Sargsyan, a member of the Supreme Body of the ARF of Armenia, Vardan Avagyan, a member of the ARF Abovyan Committee, Artashes Hunanyan, a member of the ARF Hrazdan City Committee, and Varazdat Amiraghyan, a member of the ARF Noyemberyan Committee.
As a result of operational activities carried out by the investigative bodies, more than 90 searches have been conducted in the homes of the suspects since the morning of June 25, and a total of 16 people have been detained.
Commenting on the report of the Investigative Committee, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously stated that law enforcement agencies "thwarted the "criminal-oligarchic-clerical" plan to seize power in the country." Let us recall that the basis for the investigative measures was a 7-page document published by the news site Civic.am, which presented a "coup plan".
