ArmInfo. The information special operation "Coup Plan" pursues much deeper goals than it might seem at first glance. This was written on his Facebook page by Doctor of Political Sciences Vahe Davtyan. According to his post, the "Plan" mentions "Gazprom Armenia" and "South Caucasus Railway" as participants in the "prevented coup".
"I do not rule out that this actually means preparing the ground for the nationalization of these companies. In the case of the South Caucasus Railway, this can, of course, be done more simply, given the fact that the railway infrastructure is owned by the state (the rolling stock is fully owned by the company). In the case of Gazprom, such a scenario could lead to serious risks to energy security and the resumption of talks within the ruling Civil Contract party about the prospect of importing natural gas from Azerbaijan. To complete the picture, we also note that recently a representative of the Public Services Regulatory Commission spoke about a possible increase in tariffs due to the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Armenia. This should not be perceived as another statement. This is a reflection of the government's real, consumer and anti-strategic approach to "peaceful nuclear energy" in Armenia. They want to say that we still need to understand whether we need a nuclear power plant or not. Thus, critical infrastructures, which are the pillars of the country's national security, have been chosen as targets: power grids, a nuclear power plant, and now also the gas transportation system and the railway," the expert emphasized.
Searches and detentions have been taking place among representatives of the "Sacred Struggle" protest movement since early this morning. The basis for the actions of law enforcement officers was a report from the Civic publication about a planned coup d'etat involving former presidents of the Republic of Armenia, the arrested billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, as well as Gazprom Armenia and South Caucasus Railways CJSC.
