ArmInfo. The regional competition program of the 22nd International Film Festival "Golden Apricot" is presented by films from Georgia, Iran, Armenia, Mexico, the USA, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Egypt, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and others.
The Iranian director, screenwriter, photographer Amir Naderi was invited as the chairman of the regional competition program of the "Golden Apricot". He will be joined by the Hollywood actor of Armenian origin Karen Karagulyan and the Russian director Kira Kovalenko.
According to the press service of the festival organizers, the regional program includes the following works: Deni Umar Pitsaev's psychological drama that destroys the boundaries of forced deportation from Abkhazia, identity and stigmatized memory - (Georgia), the film premiered in Cannes; (Armenia/Mexico/USA, dir. Kristine Harutyunyan) - a subtle cinematic look at the shaky border between contradictory memories, dreams and reality, the premiere took place at the Berlin International Film Festival; (Iran, dir. Sahand Kabiri) - a documentary about a political and ethical uprising about the resistance forming on the streets of Iran, the premiere took place at the Rotterdam Film Festival; (Norway/Netherlands, dir. Zaradasht Ahmed) - a personal story full of tragicomic motifs, about the consequences of the war in Iraq and political memory, premiered at the Copenhagen Documentary Film Festival (CPH:DOX); (Germany/Egypt, dir. Bassam Mortada) - a story about rethinking a forgotten page of political violence - about the events that took place in Abu Zaabal prison in 1989, premiered at the Cairo International Film Festival; (Tunisia/Qatar/Egypt/France/Saudi Arabia/Sudan/Germany, dir. Morad Mostafa) - a social story about illegal immigration, sexual violence and the crisis of coexistence in remote corners of Cairo, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival; (Lebanon, dir. Omar Mismar) - an essay film about the crumbling reality of Beirut, located at the intersection of art, architecture and political uncertainty, premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA); (France/Palestine/Iran, dir. Sepideh Farsi) - a story about female resilience and conscious oblivion against the backdrop of religious and political oppression, premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival; (Iran, dir. Said Nouri) - a subtle documentary about the shadows of Tehran's past and the architectural labyrinths of its present, premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival; (Palestine/UAE/France/Portugal/Germany/UK/Jordan, directed by brothers Tarzan and Arab Nasser) - a story about the everyday life of youth in Gaza, hidden under a veil of humor, pain and lyricism, premiered in Cannes.
This year the Golden Apricot Film Festival will be held from July 13 to 20, during which Yerevan viewers will traditionally be presented with films selected at leading international film festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Venice, etc.). A visit by prominent figures of world cinema is expected, who will share their experience and art with the public.
