ArmInfo. For the first time, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has supported the right of "systematically and forcibly expelled" Azerbaijanis "to return" to Armenia. This is stated by political scientist Karen Igityan.
He stated that this demand was voiced following the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Turkey, where the so-called "Istanbul Declaration" and five resolutions put forward by Azerbaijan were adopted.
According to him, this happened while the whole world was watching the US strikes on Iran. "In addition, Armenia was called upon to remove obstacles to signing a peace treaty. The OIC also condemned Yerevan's refusal to engage in dialogue with the "Western Azerbaijan Community", condemned "acts of genocide" (Khojaly, etc.), "Armenia's aggression", "the destruction of Islamic cultural monuments" by Armenia, and so on and so forth.
And Aliyev's ruling colleagues in Armenia say that Azerbaijan, they say, simply wants to move along the roads. What Azerbaijan has wanted since 1919 is on the map below. And that's not all," the expert added. In turn, opposition member of the Armenian parliament from the "I have the honor" faction Tigran Abrahamyan stated that the first "flowers" of Pashinyan's visit to Turkey have begun to emerge. In particular, according to him, they were outlined at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, where, at the initiative of Azerbaijan, a document called the "Istanbul Declaration" and 5 resolutions were adopted, which also mentioned Armenia. "This declaration enshrined the "right of return of forcibly displaced Azerbaijanis" to Armenia (presented in the document as "Western Azerbaijan"). Moreover, Armenia was called upon to remove obstacles that would allow it to sign the peace treaty.
In the context of the refusal of the Armenian ruler to protect the rights of the Artsakh people and, in particular, the collective return and the issue of the occupied territories of Armenia, Azerbaijan puts the term "Western Azerbaijan" on the international agenda, which includes a significant part of today's Armenia.
Moreover, in the context of Azerbaijan's insatiable ambitions in the negotiation process, the failure to sign the document also hits Armenia. The government has driven the country into a Turkish trap, where Armenia's only role is to simply obey and endure the slaps it receives," the MP concluded.
