ArmInfo. Considering the high authority of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) in society, particularly within its patriotic wing, Nikol Pashinyan has decided to fabricate a reason for removing his political opponents, especially those who support Christian values and the development of constructive relations between Armenia and Russia. Political scientist Alexander Matyushin shared his viewpoint with EADaily.
According to the political scientist, the arrest of Samvel Karapetyan is a consequence of Pashinyan's provocation through a harsh attack by the authorities on the AAC. His estimate to push the businessman to publicly defend the church was justified.
Matyushin believes that the true goal of the regime in this situation is to create a pretext for a raider seizure (under the pretext of nationalization) of Karapetyan's business asset (Electric Networks of Armenia). This is another step towards Yerevan's rapprochement with the West, aiming to diminish Russia's economic influence in Armenia and potentially transfer key significant Armenian assets to American and European interests in exchange for political support in the 2026 parliamentary elections.
The political scientist is confident that similar steps by the Pashinyan regime may also be expected in relation to the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine and the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, where Russian capital is also involved.
< Samvel Karapetyan is known for his strong connections with the Armenian community in Russia. Through his involvement, the community is able to maintain both cultural and spiritual ties with its historical homeland and engage in cross-border business with Russia, generating profits amounting to at least 15 percent of Armenia's budget. From this perspective, it can be stated that Pashinyan has firmly taken the path of Ukraine and Moldova, which provides for a complete rejection of national identity (destruction of the AAC) and placing the country under the tacit external control of the Western curators of Pashinyan and his team. The masks are off>, Alexander Matyushin emphasized.
