ArmInfo. At the plenary session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on June 19, NA deputy, member of the Alternative Projects group Elinar Vardanyan raised the issue of the adequacy of the Armenian authorities.
"I have a question for you, are you adequate? Do you really not see everything that is happening around Armenia? Are you adequate when you speak from the rostrum of the National Assembly about the nationalization of companies? I have no doubt that you will take this step and take away Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC, just as I have no doubt that one day you will take away the companies under the control of entrepreneurs sitting in parliament. But you hardly understand what kind of blow you are putting your current and future investments under," the deputy said, pointing to the presence of a number of factors that are prevalent for any investor: stability, predictability, a trustworthy legal system.
"When the ruling force, in unison with the threats of the head of government, only nods its head, declaring the need to nationalize the networks, it becomes clear to almost all investors that it is impossible to predict anything in this country, and even more so, it is impossible to claim stability in the country. When an investor turns towards Armenia, he cannot help but pay attention to the fact that the country's legal system is guided by the orders of the head of state, and, as a result, this indicates the absence of any legal guarantees for him," the MP emphasized.
She also drew attention to the problems with Armenian cargo in Georgia, where they decide in their own way whether to allow this or that cargo to pass through or not. Vardanyan noted that the authorities present the passage of several dozen Armenian vehicles into the territory of the neighboring state as a great achievement.
"Just tell me, how can we expect an influx of investments in such a situation? In fact, the statistics themselves indicate their reduction. If in 2023 the volume of direct foreign investments amounted to $584 million, then a year later they decreased more than three times, amounting to $138.5 million. This suggests that investors have more than serious concerns in relations with the country's authorities," the parliamentarian emphasized, adding that any investor, before deciding to come to Armenia, having studied only the Facebook posts of the head of government, will understand that we are talking about a frivolous state.
Meanwhile, as the MP noted, in the context of more than serious geopolitical processes, the country's authorities are deciding the issue of celibacy with candles in their hands. "At one time, the current prime minister had a more or less competent legal assistant. Today, he is gone, but is it really impossible to find one competent person who would recommend that you avoid making incomprehensible posts on social networks, since tomorrow you will be held accountable for them in accordance with current legislation," Vardanyan summed up.
