ArmInfo. If in the coming days US President Donald Trump announces his participation in certain actions against Iran or provides unprecedented military assistance to Israel, the situation for Armenia will become even more complicated, according to Suren Sargsyan, expert in American studies.
The expert noted that the US-Iran negotiations have actually failed due to the war between Israel and Iran. He also beleives that these negotiations would have had positive consequences for Armenia if agreements had been reached. "Similarly, the normalization of Russian-American relations, where there has been no significant progress, would also have benefited Armenia. These are processes that are of vital importance for Armenia. If they fail, it could weaken the positions of Russia and Iran, and reduce their influence in the South Caucasus. This would upset the fragile balance of power in the region, especially with the United States, taking a passive stance" Sargsyan wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, Turkey is gaining more influence in the South Caucasus, with the ability to advance its regional interests through Azerbaijan as well. "This includes the so-called "Zangezur Corridor", which links not only Azerbaijan and Turkey, but the entire Turkic world," he concluded.
