ArmInfo. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is directly fulfilling the commitment he made to the enemy. This is stated in a statement by the civil initiative "Hayaque" ("Armenian Referendum").
"He wants to show that he can allegedly keep the church under his control, to ensure that the Artsakh issue does not have practical consequences, especially in international discussions. This is precisely what his immoral agenda of replacing the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II is aimed at," the statement by the initiative says.
At the same time, as noted in the statement, Pashinyan is solving another problem - creating a political conflict, in which he again begins to present himself as the defender of the interests of the people. "He uses concepts such as, for example, 'let's return the church to the people.' If earlier the devil was the 'former' with whom he fought, now he wants to present the Armenian Apostolic Church, with whom he fights, as the devil. In this way, he is also trying to resolve the issue of his electorate," the statement says.
For a long time now, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has not stopped targeting the Armenian Apostolic Church. First, at a government meeting, he compared Armenian churches to closets. Then came his statements on social networks, where the Armenian prime minister used rude language towards the hierarchs of the AAC and accused one of the archbishops of sexual promiscuity. At the same time, the prime minister demanded that all priests who violated their vow of celibacy be defrocked. Similar attacks were made by the prime minister's wife, Anna Hakobyan, who called the patriarch "the main mafioso." These statements provoked a sharp reaction from the clergy.
Amid the scandal, Pyashinyan called for "effective steps" that will lead to the replacement of the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II and announced the creation of a special coordination group for the "liberation of the Residence of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin" and the settlement of organizational issues for holding new elections of the Catholicos. Pashinyan specified that followers of the AAC can become members of the Coordination Group. At the same time, the Prime Minister intends to choose the first 10 members of the Coordination Group himself.
