ArmInfo.The 24th regional meeting of the national authorities of the Eastern European countries of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was held in Yerevan on June 11-12.
According to the Persian service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, it serves as a platform for strengthening cooperation between national authorities, facilitating the exchange of best practices, as well as increasing the capacity for effective and sustainable implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
Welcoming remarks were made at the meeting by Arman Hovhannisyan, Head of the International Security Department of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, and Beatrice Laup, Head of the Implementation Support Division of the International Cooperation and Assistance Unit of the OPCW Technical Secretariat. In his speech, Hovhannisyan emphasized the importance of the continuity of efforts aimed at achieving the goals of the Convention, and reaffirmed Armenia's strong commitment to completely exclude the possibility of the use of chemical weapons or related hazardous substances. During the two-day meeting, representatives of the OPCW Technical Secretariat presented the process of implementing the obligations arising from the Convention and activities aimed at capacity building. Representatives of Armenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania also made national presentations. On June 13, following the regional meeting of national authorities, a specially organized event was held to raise awareness for representatives of state agencies of the Republic of Armenia that are part of the National Authority.
