ArmInfo. Following the flood in May last year, extensive river cleaning operations were carried out in Lori. The flood had impacted not only populated areas, but also infrastructure, water systems and rivers. This was reported by Sasun Miroyan, Director of Melioration CJSC at the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia.
A total of 13 sections of 5 rivers, Debed, Pambak, Dzoraget, Tashir and Shnogh, underwent cleaning works, with the Debed River requiring the most extensive clean-up across 8 sections. All these processes were carried out by Melioration CJSC based on the assignment from the Technical Commission for the Use and Protection of Water Systems of the Water Committee of Armenia. In total, the works covered a volume of 185 thousand cubic meters.
Miroyan noted that the last time river cleaning work was carried out was several decades ago. In this regard, he emphasized the need to change citizens' attitude towards managing and protecting water resources and systems in Armenia. The head of Melioration CJSC also mentioned upcoming plans for cleaning collector and drainage networks (CDN). This year, it is planned to clean 175.5 km of networks in the Ararat, Armavir, Kotayk, and Lori regions. Last year, cleaning work covered 221 km of CDN.
