ArmInfo. Without a street struggle, it will be extremely difficult to ensure the necessary number of votes to initiate the impeachment process against Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Artur Khachatryan, a member of the National Assembly from the opposition faction "Armenia", made this statement in a conversation with journalists on June 12.
The deputy recalled that his faction had already voiced its conditions for impeachment and reaffirmed the immutability of its stance. Nevertheless, according to Khachatryan, there are several issues around this process that need to be addressed. Khachatryan specified that if the initiators of the process were really interested in advancing it, they would have already taken concrete steps in this direction. "In addition, I am convinced that it will be impossible to collect the necessary 54 votes to express no confidence in Nikol Pashinyan without a street struggle," the MP assured.
Touching upon the statements made by representatives of the ruling party that it would be better for the opposition to focus on preparing for the upcoming elections, Khachatryan emphasized that the opposition itself will decide on their course of action.
The MP also attempted to clarify the reasons behind the Armenian Prime Minister's attacks on the church and their timing. In this regard, he mentioned President Ilham Aliyev's statement that "Baku needs guarantees that there will be no attempts at revanchism in Armenia." As Khachatryan noted, in the eyes of Pashinyan and Aliyev, the Dashnaktsutyun, the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) and the "Armenia" bloc are considered to be "revanchists".
According to the MP, the entire policy of the current government is aimed at satisfying the interests of the enemy in order to sign a peace treaty that Pashinyan can use during the snap elections. "I expect any actions from this government. I am unsure of the outcome - I don't rule anything out. They are ready to destroy any structure, just to retain their power," the oppositionist concluded.
