ArmInfo. The head of the Armenian state does not have the authority to interfere in the church's internal affairs, as stated by Mesrop Arakelyan, co-founder of the "Country to live" party, in a post on his Facebook.
Arakelyan believes that the campaign against the AAC, initiated by Prime Ministe Nikol Pashinyan, has several goals: to divert attention from the real challenges facing the country, introducing artificial issues to the agenda and potentially pleasing Azerbaijan directly or indirectly by supporting anti-Armenian sentiments. By doing so, the politician noted, Pashinyan is attempting to undermine one of the core values of Armenian identity in the eyes of society, instead of effectively addressing existing issues.
"The head of state has no authority to interfere in the internal affairs of the church, unlike the church, which has the right to speak on all matters. However, the church does not need the "advice" of other political forces, who after abandoning their political activities, urge the church to get involved in politics. Political issues in the country, including the transition of power, require a purely political solution, in which the Armenian Apostolic Church has no role. The role and significance of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the life of the Armenian people cannot be denied," Mesrop Arakelyan emphasized.
