ArmInfo. The rhetoric of the authorities, at first glance directed against the Armenian Church, will inevitably lead to the devaluation of the entire state, political and social system. This is stated in a statement by the non-partisan force "Armenian House", according to a message received by ArmInfo.
The statement draws attention to the fact that it was the Armenian Apostolic Church, as the fundamental structure of the constitutional order, which has not only the status of a national church, but also a high public rating, that initiated a comprehensive mission to preserve the nation.
At the same time, according to the statement, the Azerbaijani authorities organized a conference on the provocative topic "Christianity in Azerbaijan" in the Vatican. This was followed by falsifications on the part of the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Board, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazada, who claimed that the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin was founded on "Azerbaijani territory."
As noted by the non-partisan force, these attempts also did not go unanswered. Thus, in his speech on May 27 in front of about 400 high-ranking clergy, His Holiness (Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II) convincingly exposed the Azerbaijani falsifications and their Armenophobic aspirations. However, as noted in the statement, it was after this that the church became a target not only of Azerbaijan, but also of the Armenian authorities.
"Through the efforts of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the conference was entitled "Preservation of the Armenian Spiritual, Cultural and Historical Heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh".
Undoubtedly, such a position of the Armenian Church could not be ignored by the authorities and spiritual leader of Azerbaijan. However, it is deeply perplexing that at the same time the Armenian Church has become a target for the Armenian authorities," the Armenian House noted.
In this regard, the statement recalled the publications of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Facebook, directed against the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is noted that these unbalanced and irresponsible statements have led to unprecedented socio-political tensions and a new wave of social discord.
"Instead of joining efforts to solve the country's problems, the authorities are wasting resources on artificial agendas and trying to subordinate people's faith to secular rules. The ambitions to control the Armenian Church by methods that have nothing to do with the Constitution deserve condemnation," the Armenian House emphasized.
In conclusion, the representatives of the Armenian House once again emphasized the need for an immediate end to the attacks on the Armenian Church by the state authorities. "We expect the public to show extreme restraint and, as a way out of the current situation, not to start spreading words of hatred. Instead, we call for supporting the Armenian Church with civilized behavior and national dignity," the statement concluded.
Recall that at a government meeting on May 29, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called Armenian churches a "closet," instructing the head of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports to sort out the situation, given that the churches are state property. This statement was not liked by the clergy, who issued a corresponding refutation, which caused another outburst of anger from the head of the Armenian government, who pounced from his Facebook page with offensive statements addressed to the AAC and its head.
