ArmInfo. The civil initiative Hayakve draws the attention of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan to the serious violation of the Constitution by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Avetik Chalabyan, the coordinator of the initiative, made this statement on May 31.
"Yesterday, the person holding the position of Prime Minister in Armenia, made several unlawful remarks on his Facebook page targeting the Armenian Apostolic Church. These comments were not only offensive, but they also indicate a blatant attempt to meddle in the Church's internal matters. Meanwhile, Article 12 of the RA Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and the unrestricted activities of religious organizations. These freedoms are guaranteed by the state, which has no right to interfere with their mission. Moreover, Article 18 of the country's Basic Law guarantees the privileged status of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and Article 6 of the Constitution specifies that government officials and local leaders cannot take actions beyond their authority. If they take such steps, this is qualified as an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order. Article 427 of the RA Criminal Code provides for a harsh punishment for such actions, including a minimum sentence of 10 in prison," Avetik Chalabyan noted.
He emphasized that the authors of the initiative demand that the Prosecutor General accept the above statement as a report of a crime, initiating criminal proceedings regarding Pashinyan's recordings and his statements addressed to the AAC.
