ArmInfo. Armenia will join the International Big Cat Alliance, created in 2023 at the initiative of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote the restoration of populations and the protection of large representatives of the feline family, namely tigers, lions, leopards, snow leopards, pumas, jaguars and cheetahs, by uniting the efforts of countries and forming relevant international standards. The decision was made on May 22 at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Armenia.
As stated in the explanatory note to the document, joining the Alliance will be an excellent opportunity to implement an extensive action plan for the protection, the use of new approaches, as well as the preservation and increase of the number of rare and valuable representatives of the fauna of our country. Collaboration with the Alliance will enable the exchange of best practices, joint research, monitoring, more detailed study of the problem and improvement of measures aimed at protecting big cats.
The Alliance will provide a platform for the dissemination of information on best practices, research and development, awareness raising, etc. in the field of protection and conservation of big cats, as well as the opportunity to become part of a specialized global association whose main goal will be the protection and conservation of the world's big cats. The Alliance will also act as an advocate for the implementation of multilateral conservation agreements.
