ArmInfo. Another protest action is taking place near the Georgian Embassy in Armenia with the participation of representatives of the Armenian brandy industry. For over 40 days, Armenian cargoes with alcoholic products, which were sent through a transit country (Georgia) to Russia and Belarus, have been standing on the Armenian-Georgian border, awaiting the results of a laboratory examination to check the quality and identify violations. According to the assurances of the Armenian side, the transit state has no right to such actions. If the Georgian representatives suspect the Armenian cargoes of being contraband, then, as the exporters noted, they should inspect the vehicles and release them if no problems are found. But long-term downtime and checking the quality of the products is not within the powers of the transit state.
During the previous protest action, which took place days earlier at the Georgian diplomatic mission in the Republic of Armenia, its head Giorgi Sharvashidze agreed to receive several brandy producers to listen to their complaints. Following the meeting, the diplomat promised that official Tbilisi would provide clarifications within the next two days. And so it happened. The statement of the Georgian Revenue Service was published in a number of Georgian media outlets, where it was said that what was happening at the border was nothing more than control procedures at customs points, which were carried out in a standard manner, and there were no delays of trucks.
The Armenian side was not satisfied with such a response. Today, a protest action was held again near the building of the Georgian Embassy, which culminated in a meeting between one of the Armenian producers, the Georgian consul and a number of employees of the Embassy. Following the discussions, the head of the Shakhnazaryan brandy factory, Hayk Shakhnazaryan, informed the media and the assembled employees of the enterprises that the diplomatic mission had recommended that they sue the Georgian side in connection with what was happening. After this, Shakhnazaryan demanded that the employees of the Embassy come out to the participants of the protest and voice all this to them. Since the demand was not met, they blocked the road, then decided to head to the building of the government of the Republic of Armenia.
