ArmInfo. Ombudsman of Armenia Anahit Manasyan and UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Francois Jacob got acquainted with the problems in Syunik region.
As reported by the press service of the Ombudsman of Armenia, during the visit, the human rights defender and the UN Resident Coordinator visited the Meghri community, where they discussed with the head of the community Khachatur Andreasyan the existing problems in terms of human rights violations, and also touched upon socio-economic issues.
The head of the community noted that residents of the settlements also face problems related to access to drinking and irrigation water, medical care and services.
The interlocutors raised the issue of the rights of residents of border settlements of the region and the need for cooperation with international organizations in the field of human rights protection.
As part of the visit to Meghri, a meeting was also held with representatives and beneficiaries of the network of women's resource centers "Winnet Armenia". During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the protection and promotion of women's rights, the rights of children with disabilities, parents caring for them, guarantees of access to medical services and other issues. In addition, the human rights activist and the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia visited the settlements of Alvank and Shvanidzor, where they held meetings with the teaching staff and students. During the meeting, issues related to human rights that require priority solutions were discussed, in particular, those related to access to water, medical care, the right to education, employment and other issues.
