ArmInfo. The deputies of the opposition faction "I have the honor" of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia decided not to join the process of nominating the candidacy of the leader of the Bright Armenia party, former Ambassador-at-Large Edmon Marukyan for the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
This is stated in the statement of the head of the faction Hayk Mamijanyan, published on his Facebook page. The statement confirms that on May 6, the faction expressed its readiness to discuss the issue of the candidacy of the Prime Minister without preconditions and initiate the process of expressing no confidence in the Prime Minister. However, the faction decided not to participate in the process initiated by NA deputies Hovik Agazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan for the simple reason that the nominated candidate is no different from the current rulers in his political background. He is equally responsible for the difficult situation in the country. "In other words, the "I have the honor" faction is against the process of replacing Nikol Pashinyan with "Nikol Pashinyan 2", so we do not see the need for a meeting with the candidate. However, the MPs who nominated their candidates can contact the faction for additional information regarding our decision," Mamijanyan said in a statement.
The nomination of Marukyan for the post of Prime Minister within the framework of the impeachment initiative of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan was recently announced by members of the National Assembly of Armenia Hovik Agazaryan (member of the board of the United National Constitutional Party) and Hakob Aslanyan.
On April 28, members of the We Do Not Sleep movement, founded by the founder of the Veto movement Narek Malyan, former Ambassador of Armenia to Poland Edgar Ghazaryan and a group of oppositionists, sent individual letters to members of the Armenian Parliament about initiating the process of declaring a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan within 10 days. Both opposition factions - Armenia (28 MPs) and I Have the Honor (6 MPs) - expressed their support for the initiative. Meanwhile, a vote of no confidence in the current Prime Minister can be discussed in parliament only if at least 36 MPs provide the signatures required to begin the process. A minimum of 54 votes (a simple majority of deputies) are needed for the process to succeed. With the refusal of the "I have the honor" faction to take part in the discussions on Marukyan's candidacy, the process can be considered a failure.
