International structures should not apply double standards to Armenia  - Annita Demetriou

ArmInfo.  Our visit is another testament to the excellent relationship between Yerevan and Nicosia, as  stated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus,  Annita Demetriou, on May 19 at a joint press conference with the  Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen  Simonyan.

According to Demetriou, there is well-established cooperation with  Alen Simonyan, and they have jointly promoted common interests.  "Cyprus and Armenia share same principles and values, we have beem  struggling for the  same justice for many years," she said  emphasizing the necessity to enhance trilateral cooperation format  between Armenia, Greece, and Cyprus.  She spoke about the   "impressive and touching" trip to the Aragatsotn region of Armenia,  where the Cypriot delegation met forcibly displaced families from  Artsakh currently living in various communities of the region. As  Demetriou pointed out, "we must not forget what happened  in Armenia,  and international structures must not be guided by double standards.  Nicosia, according to her, supports Yerevan's efforts to strengthen  relations with the EU, as Armenia belongs in the European family.

The speakers of the two countries discussed issues "that Cyprus has  certain concerns about".  "The speaker of the Armenian parliament  expressed his support for resolving the Cyprus issue within the  framework of relevant resolutions. We, on our part, wish for the  speedy establishment of peace in the region between Armenia and  Azerbaijan," she said, expressing hope for the imminent signing of a  peace agreement.
