On the 80th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War, Vladimir Putin has sent congratulatory messages to the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Israel, as well as the peoples of Georgia and Moldova.
As reported by the Kremlin press service, the Russian president emphasized that "our countries sacredly honor the glorious feats and great sacrifices of our fathers and grandfathers, who courageously fought shoulder to shoulder against the Nazi invaders and selflessly worked in the rear."
"It is our sacred duty is to carefully preserve the message of the generation of victors. Therefore, it is very important to uncompromisingly suppress any attempts to distort our common history, whitewash or forget the atrocities committed by the Nazis and their accomplices," the head of the Russian state noted. In congratulatory messages to leaders and citizens of foreign countries, the Russian president conveyed heartfelt congratulations and sincere gratitude to veterans of the Great Patriotic War and home front workers, wishing them good health, prosperity and long life.
In his addresses to the peoples of Georgia and Moldova, Vladimir Putin called for preserving the good traditions of friendship and mutual assistance bequeathed to us, not allowing our common historical heritage to be consigned to oblivion and sowing discord between friendly nations.
