ArmInfo. Big money is being spent from outside, money is coming from outside, particularly from the northern neighbor - from Russia. A hybrid war is being waged against Armenia. Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan made this remark in a conversation with journalists on May 2, touching upon the current domestic political situation and concerns about the government losing trust among the Armenian people.
According to him, this hybrid war is periodically activated, when, for example, some experts with Armenian surnames appear on various Russian TV channels trying to "change the government in the Republic of Armenia", calling for rallies, and so on. The Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia believes that these attempts will intensify by the 2026 elections and will have the opposite effect, while the rating of the ruling faction "Civil Contract" will double, for which the faction "will be grateful".
"I do not see a threat of a coup, because I trust the people of the Republic of Armenia. I say this based on experience - super-goals for a change of power have been set since the end of the 2020 war by various poles", he emphasized. When asked why Nikol Pashinyan is undesirable for the Russian Federation, Simonyan responded: "Why is he undesirable? Our partners say the opposite".
When asked a clarifying question, if they say the opposite, then why strive for a change of power, Simonyan said that for many, the presence of a people-elected government in the post-Soviet territory is unacceptable, "there are very few such precedents in this territory and this sets a bad example". Additionally, the RA is taking clear steps to increase its level of independence and sovereignty, a move that is not favored by some. "Because it must always be dependent on some center, have an older brother and think that without a big brother or superpower it will be eaten, and it owes its existence to him. This reality is being eliminated today. This is an unpleasant situation, because Armenia is no longer governable, and this was necessary so that in the UN and other venues Armenia would vote as they want, defend interests, war, various realities," Alen Simonyan concluded.
