"Today, Armenian-Australians remember the terrible atrocities committed by the Ottoman Empire. I call upon the Federal Government to formally recognise the Armenian Genocide and stand with our Armenian community."
The largest Australian state of Australia, New South Wales, adopted a resolution on April 17, 1997, condemning the mass crimes committed in the Ottoman Empire and recognizing these crimes as the first genocide of the 20th century.
Moreover, on May 8, 2013, the Legislative Assembly (Lower House) of the Parliament of New South Wales, Australia unanimously adopted an act recognizing the genocides of Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks.
