ArmInfo. Residents of Proshyan village have once again held a protest, demanding that public transport fares be returned to the previous level.
They are protesting against the increase in fares. Many of the protesters work in Yerevan, as there are no factories to employ local residents. Previously, the trip to Yerevan was carried out by the Yerevan Bus company, whose number 59 transported Proshyan residents for 100 drams. However, after the route was transferred to Multi Transport, the fare increased to 250 drams. Now the protesters are demanding a return to the previous price, because they do not earn enough to support their families and at the same time pay 2.5 times the previous rate. Moreover, they have to change buses on the way to work.
On April 9, residents of Kasakh and Proshyan villages held a meeting with government representatives. They demanded a meeting with the Governor of Kotayk Province and Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia Armen Simonyan. The meetings took place, but no optimal solution was made. The protesters demand public hearings in the community administration to find appropriate solutions in the interests of its residents. Police units arrived at the scene of the protest and demanded that the road be unblocked. Deputy Head of the Main Department for Ensuring Public Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Azinyan called on the protesters to open the road and continue their protest, but as of 10:00 the road remained closed.
