ArmInfo. Elected mayor of Gyumri Vardan Ghukasyan officially assumed his duties. The oath-taking ceremony took place on April 19 in the second largest city of Armenia. The inauguration ceremony began with a prayer, followed by the playing of the national anthem of the Republic of Armenia. The opening ceremony was also attended by the head of the Shirak Diocese, Archbishop Mikael Ajapahian.
In his speech, Vardan Ghukasyan, specifically stated: "A I take on the role of Mayor of Gyumri, Shirak region, I vow to uphold the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, laws and decisions of the Community Council when exercising the powers of the head of the community. I will honestly and conscientiously fulfill my responsibilities as the head of the community, working towards the prosperity of the city and acting for the benefit of its residents. I pledge to safeguard the rights, legitimate interests and property of the city, to inspire the people with my dedicated service, and to contribute to the well-being and spiritual growth of its residents." After the speech by the head of the Shirak Diocese, Vardan Ghukasyan was given a heavy chest chain - a symbol of power - around his neck. He was also presented with symbolic keys to the city.
