ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan believes that the country's new Constitution should not include a reference to the Declaration of Independence.
It should be noted that the preamble of Armenia's current Constitution states that it is based on the Declaration of Independence adopted on August 23, 1990, which mentions <based on the joint resolution of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR and the National Council of Nagorno-Karabakh from December 1, 1989 "On the Reunification of the Armenian SSR and Nagorno-Karabakh". It also states that <the Republic of Armenia stands in support of the task of achieving international recognition of the 1915 Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey and Western Armenia>.
<I can say that, in my opinion, the text of the new constitution should not include a reference to the Declaration of Independence. However, it is up to the people of the Republic of Armenia to decide. Of course, the arguments <for> and <against> should be presented by political forces and their leaders. This is my political stance,> Pashinyan told reporters on April 16.
