ArmInfo. The issue of changing the preamble of the Constitution was not discussed, as Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia Tigran Dadunts informed journalists during a briefing on April 10.
He also mentioned that they are currently focusing on the text of the Constitution, rather than the concept, as significant progress has been made on the latter over the past 2-3 years. As a result, a conceptual document was been developed. Dadunts noted that the text of the new Constitution must be completed before the 2026 elections, as per the Prime Minister's directive. The document is planned to be submitted to the Council on Constitutional Reforms for discussion and comments, if necessary.
The Deputy Minister noted that he agreed with the recent decision of the Constitutional Court of Armenia regarding the demands and concerns of the Azerbaijani side about the Declaration of Independence. He noted that the provisions of the Declaration of Independence in no way contradict the interpretation of the Constitution. Commenting at the request of journalists on the statement of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Srbuhi Galyan that the Constitution should not jeopardize the peace process, the Deputy Minister noted that the Minister likely meant the document should not contain provisions that could cause serious political and legal upheavals. Additionally, Dadunts emphasized the importance of public trust in the new Constitution as it serves as the cornerstone of any state.
