ArmInfo. The Azerbaijani authorities are resorting to outright blackmail, which is typical for authoritarian regimes. This was stated by Armen Gevorgyan, a member of the Armenian delegation, a deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction "Armenia", former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, speaking at the discussions in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
The day before, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that Baku would not comply with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, since the Azerbaijani delegation was deprived of the right to vote in PACE.
"This is outright political blackmail, typical for authoritarian regimes. Ilham Aliyev has already deprived tens of thousands of Armenians of their rights, holds shameful show trials of Armenian prisoners, and is now depriving Azerbaijani citizens of the right to justice in Strasbourg," the Armenian delegate emphasized. He added that this is the essence of Europe's dangerous compromises with a regime that exchanges gas for human rights. "We are witnessing not only the decline of the International Criminal Court, but also a real threat of losing the human rights system based on European values," Armen Gevorkyan emphasized.
