ArmInfo. Tehran is in favor of establishing peace in the South Caucasus and hopes that Yerevan and Baku will demonstrate to facilitate the signing of a peace treaty. Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani stated this in a conversation with journalists in Yerevan on April 3.
According to him, another escalation is disastrous for the region. "We hope that all parties will remain committed to the efforts aimed at peace and tranquility. We are in contact with both Armenia and Azerbaijan and in our contacts we urge the parties to adhere to the peace agenda. Iran is willing to support any format proposed by the parties that will help to maintain the ceasefire and establish peace," the diplomat added. According to Sobhani, the regional platform "3+3" is one of such successful formats that could assist the parties in progressing towards peace.
Touching upon Azerbaijan's purchase of weapons from Israel, the diplomat noted that Iran is against the militarization of the region. "We have excellent relations with Azerbaijan. We are neighbors, and we use these ties with Azerbaijan to establish peace in the region. We closely monitor the processes in the region," the diplomat concluded.
