ArmInfo. Chairman of the Union of Armenians of Russia (UAR) Ara Abrahamyan spoke about the reasons for his lengthy passport control at the Yerevan Zvartnots airport. He also shared his stance on Armenia's European integration, the government's policy on the Armenian Genocide and its relationship with the CSTO.
The head of the UAR believes that with such actions, the Armenian authorities, led by Nikol Pashinyan, are trying to intimidate people, including him. However, according to him, he has nothing to fear as he has not done anything illegal and has done a lot of good in his homeland. He mentioned several humanitarian projects carried out both in Armenia and in Artsakh. According to him, most likely, the reason for the attempt not to let him into the country is his active socio-political activities in Armenia. "I have been helping people all my life. I have implemented many programs in Armenia. The SAR has 640 offices throughout Russia, and we are one of the leading community organizations in the Russian Federation. Probably, because of my activities, they want to intimidate me," he said at a press conference in Yerevan on March 31.
Abrahamyan criticized the current government's policy, including towards Artsakh. He noted that Pashinyan gave up so easily because he didn't feel a deep connection to the Armenian land, as he had not made any investments there. He then criticized the Armenian intelligentsia and business community for their passivity and indifference towards the fate of the Motherland. "Our people are disunited, and Nikol Pashinyan is to blame for this division into "black and white". We need to come together around the issues facing our country," Abrahamyan believes. He added that he had brought a book about the Armenian Genocide to the event, as historical events cannot be consigned to oblivion. "The issue of consigning the Armenian Genocide to oblivion depends on these authorities headed by Nikol Pashinyan. He is making decisions unilaterally and disregarding laws," the head of the UAR noted.
He noted that the Armenian authorities, led by Pashinyan, were responsible for surrendering Artsakh and refusing to defend it, and the people of Artsakh were forced to flee to Armenia under the threat of death, and now they are denied social assistance. Abrahamyan also criticized the Armenian government's initiative on European integration, expressing the belief that Armenia will never be accepted into the EU, and these actions will damage relations with the Eurasian Economic Union. The head of the UAR also stated that it was the incompetent policy of the Armenian authorities that led to the deterioration of relations between Armenia and the CSTO.
