ArmInfo. After 31 years, the Republic of Artsakh has been recognized as part of the occupier and genocidal Azerbaijan by the political successor of the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as stated by political scientist Stepan Hasan-Jalalyan.
The political scientist's message received by ArmInfo highlights that 33 years ago, in March 1992, the first President of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, proposed resolving the conflict between Azerbaijan and Artsakh by incorporating the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region into Azerbaijan as an autonomous republic. The political scientist emphasized that Levon Ter-Petrosyan voiced this position in an interview with the Russian-language newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda". In this regard, Hasan-Jalalyan cited an excerpt from the aforementioned interview: "I would like to think that the status of an autonomous republic within Azerbaijan would fully satisfy all parties. Nagorno- Karabakh remains within Azerbaijan, the territorial integrity of the republics is preserved, and the Karabakh people, in turn, have guaranteed life. This is our position. We are ready to discuss it at any level."
"Fortunately, he was unable to realize his anti-Armenian intentions then, as he was fairly and irrevocably removed from power," the expert noted. At the same time, Hasan-Jalalyan believes that no circumstance could justify the refusal to de-occupy the Republic and return the forcibly displaced population to Artsakh as the legitimate owners of this land. "We can and must liberate Artsakh," the political scientist concluded.
