ArmInfo. The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted the draft law "On the Launch of the Process of Armenia's Accession to the European Union" in its second reading and in full during the plenary session on March 26. 64 parliamentarians voted in favor of the document, 7 voted against, and there were no abstentions.
Let us recall that the draft law was developed by the civil initiative "Eurokve", which collected 60,000 signatures from citizens exceeding the required 50 thousand. This granted the initiative the right to develop a document, which was then submitted to the country's parliament in accordance with legal procedures. Opposition factions criticize this initiative, claiming it was merely declarative. The opposition faction "Armenia" did not participate in the vote, and another opposition force "I Have Honor" voted against the draft law.
Earlier today, the authorities noted that the adoption of the document does not indicate Armenia's immediate application for EU membership. Rather, it is a step towards strengthening relations with the EU.
