ArmInfo. Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Sargis Khandanyan, has proposed to the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis to organize a joint meeting to discuss the peace treaty and its ratification process details.
As Khandanyan noted on his Facebook page, reaching an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the draft peace agreement will be an important stage marking the completion of negotiations on this document. "Emphasizing our role as parliamentarians elected directly by the people and responsible for protecting their interests, we recognize that the agreement must be ratified by the parliaments of both countries after it is signed," Khandanyan noted.
In addition, the MP expressed confidence that such a meeting would provide an opportunity to discuss issues related to the role of parliaments in the peace process. It would also facilitate dialogue on the future of inter-parliamentary cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels. "We can consider a neutral territory on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border as the venue for the first meeting," Khandanyan concluded.
