Armenia`s Interior Ministry reports: 9 people  trapped under  avalanche  on Mount Aragats

ArmInfo.On March 11, an avalanche occurred on the northern peak of Mount Aragats, trapping a  group of 9 people  under the snow. According to  the Crisis Management Center of the Aragatsotn Regional Rescue Department, eight people were able escape from  the avalanche, but one person is still  missing. An operational group, a combat unit and a team from the Center for Special Purpose Rescue Operations were dispatched to the scene.

It should be noted that  the Ministry of Environment of Armenia has  issued a warning regarding the potential for avalanches in the  mountainous and highland areas of the republic, particularly on steep  slopes above 2500 meters. This warning comes as a result of the  projected  6-10 degree increase in air temperature from March 11 to  18. The Ministry of Environment of Armenia urges citizens to refrain  from visiting mountain peaks.
