ArmInfo.Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan states that the postponement of the adoption of the bill on the beginning of the process of joining the European Union is not connected with the geopolitical situation in the world.
"Nothing but technical", - he told journalists on March 4, touching on the reasons for the postponement.
The ruling faction "Civil Contract", he continued, decided to vote "for" and will do so.
At the same time, he called for not drawing parallels between the State Duma's decision to postpone the discussion of the bill and possible geopolitical shifts, in particular, the situation around the EU against the backdrop of the Trump-Zelensky squabble.
The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted the draft law "On the beginning of the process of Armenia's accession to the European Union" in the first reading at the plenary session on February 12. 63 deputies voted for the adoption of the document, with 7 against. The opposition, represented by the "Armenia" faction, did not participate in the vote, and another opposition faction, "I have the honor", voted against. However, the day before, the NA Standing Committee on European Integration decided to postpone the discussion of the draft law in the second reading during a meeting. The head of the committee, Arman Egoyan, assured that the ruling party's position on the adoption of the draft law has not changed, and emphasized that the delay is of a technical nature - the vote will be organized as soon as possible. He did not agree with the opinion of journalists that geopolitical events could be the reason for the delay.
